A confirmed earthquake was felt across the West Rand on Tuesday and comes less than a month after a tremor was felt in January.

Did you feel that earthquake? Less than a month after a tremor was felt on the West Rand, more windows were rattling as another earthquake struck the district on Tuesday evening, February 6.

Social media was abuzz with posts revealing the earthquake occurred before 21:00.

According to Volcano Discovery, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake hit Gauteng followed by a 3.0 magnitude earthquake a few hours later.

One social media post said it was felt across areas like Krugersdorp, Roodepoort, Discovery, Wilgeheuwel, Helderkruin, and Randfontein just to name a few.

Gauteng Weather also posted on their X account that multiple reports of an aftershock were felt at about 23:30. “This follows an earlier tremor with a preliminary magnitude of 3.4 near Soweto, shortly before 9pm.”

Suburban Control Centre also said in a post on their Facebook page that an earthquake was felt at about 20:53 on Tuesday and seemed to have been about a four magnitude emanating from Krugersdorp.
