Pageant titleholders reach out to the needy in Elandsvlei

Toiletry packs included sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and deodorant, just to name a few.

Residents of Elandsvlei recently did their part on Mandela Day by handing out essentials to those in need.

One of the residents and Mr Randfontein 2021/ 2022 Barend Kotze said he, Marinda Troskie (Mrs Curvé 2021/ 2022) and Margareth Jonker (Mrs Randfontein First Princess 2021/ 2022) handed out toiletries to those who live in extreme poverty.

“We believe we can all do great things by being a helping hand to those in need. Mandela said overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity – it’s an act of justice, and it’s the protection of a fundamental human right; the right to dignity and a decent life,” said Kotze.

They handed out toiletry packs that included sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant and many more to families who are in desperate need for help to overcome poverty in their lives.

He said poverty grows daily and we all have a part to play to help those less fortunate overcome their challenges.

They handed the toiletry packs to Alida Potts who opened her heart to poverty-stricken families by being a helping hand to provide a safe haven for them.

“Alida has a great passion to help those who don’t have.”

Kotze added that together everyone can make a difference and help fight poverty. Every day must be a Mandela Day to reach those in need, and educate them to build a better tomorrow.
