Stage 2 load-shedding notice: ‘Time periods can change at any time’ – RWCLM

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) issues notice about substations and areas that may be affected despite 'No load-shedding today according to the Eskom program'.

Although load-shedding stage 2 will be implemented countrywide from 16:00 until Thursday, Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has issued a notice that this could change at short notice.

Please note that Eskom’s time periods can change at any time. It all depends on the load on the Eskom network. Let’s assist and switch off any unnecessary load (lights and heaters),” said RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa.

He said the following substations and areas may be affected despite the notice reading ‘No load-shedding today according to the Eskom programme’:

• Lafarge substation – Finsbury, Peacehaven, Kocksoord, Middelvlei, Ten Acres and Lafarge
• Westergloor substation  Toekomsrus, Toekomsrus Extension 2, Westergloor, Aureus Extension 3, Pelzvale and Randfontein South
• Munic substation – Nola, Aranda, parts of Helikon Park, Oasis and Orion, parts of Westergloor, Randfontein First Street to 6th Street, Civic Centre, West Rand District Municipality and SARS offices
• Mohlakeng substation – Mohlakeng and Mohlakeng Extension 7 and 8
• Drowel substation – Greenhills and Extension 3 and 5, Helikon Park, Randgate, Randpoort, Culemborg Park, parts of Homelake, Eikepark, Wheatlands, Loumarina, Ooster Plots, Elandsvlei, Zenzele, Mohlakeng Extension 4, 5 and 11, Afri Village and Dan Thloome.

Mohlakeng residents are to note the following:

“Please take note that the municipal electricity standby team will continue implementing internal rotational load-shedding throughout the day, due to the fact that Eskom has reduced the relay settings on their side of the substation. Please switch off all unnecessary load like geysers and heaters to assist the electricity team not to switch off large areas.

It’s not possible to give any time frames as to how long areas’ load will be shed; we will try our best to keep it to two hours. It all depends on the load on the substation.”

Montshiwa added that all electrical installations and apparatus must be treated as being live at all times.
