Miss Galaxy South Africa finalist striving for change

She is planning on starting her own organisation called Kagoentle which is based on human services, mental health and drug abuse.

“It feels amazing to be a finalist and I’m extremely proud of myself.”

These were the words of 20-year-old Keamogetswe Masemola who has reached the finals of the Miss Galaxy South Africa pageant.

“It is an online contest that focuses on empowering young girls and their social brands, so most challenges that were assigned to us had to do with social media engagements, recording different types of videos, posting on Instagram and making sure that we do as instructed to accumulate a certain number of points to move to the next level of the contest. Right now I’m working on getting points for my pageant entry level.”

The highlight for her during these challenges was getting a celebrity shout-out from actress Florence Mokgatsi.

Last year Keamogetswe helped with the Donate a Pad drive around her area, and she is planning on starting her own organisation called Kagoentle which means ‘beautiful creation’, and is based on human services, mental health and drug abuse.

“I signed up for this pageant because I love media. I did some research and found that it was an online contest that can actually help me grow not only as a model but also as a brand. My hunger for success drives me, and in the next two to three years I see myself gracing your television screens as a commercial model and upcoming actress.”

Keamogetswe explained she’s inspired by the likes of Bonang Matheba, Shudufhadzo Musida and many more successful black women who came from nothing and worked very hard to get to where they are today.

She looks up to them because through them she can see a reflection of herself, and she believes if they were able to do it, so would she.

Last year Keamogetswe participated in the first edition of the Ntombenhle Africa Beauty Pageant and Fashion Expo, which was her very first pageant, and she was crowned the first-ever Ntombenhle Africa Queen 2021 in the senior category.

“When I win the title of Miss Galaxy South Africa 2022 I will finally be able to bring my organisation to life and achieve all the goals of bringing the change that’s needed in black communities such as Bekkersdal. I will be the voice for those who are voiceless.”

She will try to cater for:

Human services – Provide for and offer assistance to the less fortunate by for example donating food, toiletries and clothes.

Mental health – Educate children from the age of eight to teenagers, young adults and parents about the different types of mental health disorders such as bipolar, anxiety and depression, and many more.

Drug abuse – Help most of the youth in her community to fight against their drug addiction and better their lives.
