Home gutted by flash fire

He has no idea what caused his house to be engulfed in flames.

A resident of Robin Park didn’t think that a quick walk to the shop to buy something would be the last time he saw his house as he had left it.

When the 56-year-old Meshack Molatudi turned the corner on his way back home, he saw his whole house engulfed in flames. He believed the fire started at approximately 16:30 on Sunday June 26.

“I left my 27-year-old son at home and he also went to do something, but when he returned he saw fire coming from the back room. As it spread further through the whole house, he ran to find me to tell me what was happening. I don’t know what caused the fire because we don’t have any electricity; we use a paraffin stove and a fireplace, but it didn’t start in that room.”

Some residents helped to try and extinguish the fire, and luckily the fire department came to help them.

They basically lost everything they owned. Luckily he had both their identity documents on him but everything else burned beyond recognition.

Meshack is unemployed and they are staying at his cousins’ small shack temporarily.

The windows of the house are also no more.

“I really feel bad about what happened; I can’t get it out of my mind that I’ve lost so many things. It’s terrible.”

He will have to find a new home, and currently they need donations like clothes, blankets and food, and anything that will help them get back on their feet.

If anyone has anything they would like to donate, contact Pastor Paul on 060 987 6728.
