Housebreaking dominates Mapogo’s latest list of nine crime incidents

Numerous incidents of housebreaking and theft were reported yet again in Rand West City from June 28 to July 3.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said nine incidents were reported for the period between Monday, June 27 and Sunday, July 3.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Tuesday, June 28 at 08:54 – Housebreaking and theft on Chevrolet Street, Aureus: Mapogo responded to a panic alarm signal received from the premises. On further investigation it was found that perpetrators had jumped over the wall at the back of the premises during the evening, broke the store room lock and stole seven welding machines.

• Tuesday, June 28 at 08:58 – Housebreaking and theft on Diana Avenue, Homelake: The owner informed Mapogo that a break-in occurred at the premises during the evening. On further investigation it was found that perpetrators had removed a pre-cast slab from the wall during the early morning hours, stole a vehicle battery and other small items from an outbuilding, and fled the scene.

• Tuesday, June 28 at 13:20 – Theft of a motor vehicle on Kanfer Street, Greenhills: The owner of the premises informed Mapogo that perpetrators had lifted the main gate from its rails, pushed a Nissan NP200 out of the premises and managed to start the vehicle in the street. On realising that the vehicle had been stolen the owner informed their vehicle tracking company and the vehicle was later recovered in Soweto.

• Thursday, June 30 at 01:11 – Theft on Elaine Avenue, Homelake: During load-shedding perpetrators entered the premises through the front gate, stole a generator from the premises and fled the scene.

• Friday, July 1 at 10:23 – Housebreaking and theft on Main Road, Tenacres: Perpetrators gained entry onto the premises by removing pre-cast slabs from the wall. They stole a scooter and two batteries from the workshop and fled the scene.

• Friday, July 1 at 14:17 – Housebreaking and theft on Da Gama Street, Culemborg Park: Perpetrators gained entry onto the premises by lifting the front gate, then forced open the front door whilst the domestic worker was inside the house, stole household items and fled the scene.

• Saturday, July 2 at 02:03 – Housebreaking and theft on Village Street, Randfontein CBD: Perpetrators forced open the shop front door, stole a flat-screen television and soft drinks and fled the scene.

• Sunday, July 3 at 10:15 – Attempted theft and arrest on Hackney Cres, Greenhills: A perpetrator forced open the lock in an attempt to steal electrical cables from the transformer, and was arrested when he attempted to flee the scene.

• Sunday, July 3 at 11:29 – Theft on Beatrice Avenue, Homelake: Perpetrators pushed their hands through the main gate, lifted the gate motor cover, stole the motor motherboard and fled the scene.
