West Rand District Youth Desk launched in Westonaria
The West Rand District Youth Desk was launched at the Westonaria Banquet Hall recently. The election was led by the Department of Community Safety, the District community policing forum structure and police.
“Any nation whose youth feels hopeless, rejected and useless has a bleak future filled with anger, confusion, poverty and high level of crime.”
These are the words of Captain Solomon Sibiya from the Kagiso Police, referring to the latest crime statistics, especially contact, GBV and property-related crimes where mostly the youth was involved.
On Friday, June 24, the West Rand District Youth Desk was launched at the Westonaria Banquet Hall. The election was led by the Department of Community Safety, the District community policing forum structure and police. The West Rand District police stations’ communications and crime-prevention officers monitored the occasion.
The establishment of such a structure came at a good time when the District is inundated by service delivery protests. Such protests are led by hopeless and unemployed youth,” Sibiya said.
The structure will be expected to assist police in the fight against crime, and plan a programme of action that will hopefully bring hope for the future and discourage the youth from engaging in criminal activities.
