Vandalism, attempted suicide among several incidents this week — Mapogo

Vandalism dominates Mapogo's crime incident report this past week. There was also an attempted suicide incident.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said five serious incidents were reported for the period between Monday, June 13 and Sunday, June 19.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Tuesday, June 14 at 07:44 – Vandalism on Piet Uys Street, Westergloor: Perpetrators ripped the alarm LED light from the roof and fled the scene.

• Tuesday, June 14 at 18:23 – Damage to property on Homestead Avenue, Homelake: A driver under the influence of alcohol drove through the precast wall, causing damage to the wall and his vehicle.

• Thursday, June 16 at 19:42 – Attempted suicide on Buiten Street, Randgate: It was found that a woman had taken an overdose of sleeping tablets. The medical services managed to assist the patient and transported her to hospital for further treatment.

• Friday, June 17 at 23:33 – Vandalism on Frank Oerder Street, Greenhills:
 Perpetrators threw stones at the premises, broke a window and ran away.

• Saturday, June 18 at 13:46 – Attempted break-in and an arrest on Main Reef Road, Randfontein CBD: The owner noticed a bag on the roof, and on inspection of the premises the Mapogo response officer found a thug hiding inside the roof. He was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
