Total of 116 arrested in the District over the weekend

Another weekend police operation in the West Rand District yielded 116 arrests.

Police from all over the West Rand were out and about again this past weekend in an effort to bring crime to its knees.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Peter Masooa said police worked with other law-enforcement agencies to hold stops-and-searches and roadblocks, and trace wanted suspects.

A total of 116 suspects were brought to book for various crimes, including:
• Robberies
• General theft
• Dealing in liquor without licence
• Illegal immigrants
• Possession of drugs
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Malicious damage to property
• Rape
• Housebreaking and theft
• House robbery
• Dealing in dagga
• Common assault
• Drunken driving
• Contravention of a protection order

“The arrested suspects appeared in their various magistrate’s courts in the District on Monday,” Masooa said.
