No Ferraris for low-profile R126 million SA Powerball winner

There is a new winner of May 2022’s R126 million jackpot. Where is the winner from and how is the money going to be spent?

It didn’t take that long for the winner of May 2022’s R126 million jackpot in the SA Powerball draw to step forward and claim her prize.

The Johannesburg resident was in relative disbelief when she found out she won, but is glad her spirit of generosity has effectively been paid forward.

“I believe the spirit of gratitude and giving, is what has landed me here at this point in my life,” said the winner, who has chosen to stay anonymous for now.

“I am yet to digest the news. I need time to re-evaluate the situation and apply my mind.

“When I found out that I had won, I was in complete disbelief, and I felt elated. Reality is only sinking in now.”

While some people just bu  one or two tickets when entering the lottery, this lucky lass opted for four in one go. Three ostensibly failed, but the fortunate fourth enabled her to really cash in.

“The three tickets had no winnings, however the Powerball jackpot one, was checked on the internet,” she added.

“After playing, I kept my ticket in my purse, where I had three other tickets as well.”

This interesting and detailed payout table depiction of the SA Powerball win overs the past 12 months shows that this latest R126 million is one of a few in excess of R100 million, but not that close to the R167 million won in early 2022 or the R158 million clinched in mid-2021. Still, a life-changing number, regardless.

“We plan to keep a very low profile, with our feet on the ground. My partner and I are very conservative people, we are not splashy big spenders, so there will be no Ferraris,” added the R126 million winner.

“Although we have been looking for property for quite some time, these winnings will now help us to fast track the process of finding it, as our current living situation right now, is not ideal.

“We look forward to having a home with a garden and sufficient space where we can entertain our guests.”

Winners often talk about what they will buy, build or invest for themselves on the back of their newfound fortune. But just as many also speak of what they will do for others and how. Charitable giving is often the theme. This latest winner is another fine example of someone looking to be unselfish and altruistic with a portion of their winnings.

“We will definitely travel the world as well, once the dust has settled, a portion of these winnings is will also go towards supporting an NGO of my choice,” she added.

The SA Powerball, like many other draws around the country and the world, happens twice a week. It presents a chance in the middle of the week and on the weekend to win. The latest winner certainly took advantage of the regular frequency and the reasonably small entry price per ticket.

“I normally play twice a week, and never spend more than R50 on tickets,” she concluded.
