Both RandWest SPCA properties damaged in one night

They need help from the community to help them secure their premises in Randfontein in Westonaria.

The RandWest SPCA needs the community’s help after their branches in both Randfontein and Westonaria were broken into on the same day and numerous items were stolen.

RandWest SPCA chairperson Brenda Eloff said she was alerted on Saturday morning, May 14 that the precast wall at the back of their Westonaria branch had been broken down the previous night and their large dog trailer had been stolen as well as the wheels of their smaller trailer.

She added that on the same night their Randfontein branch was damaged when a section of the wall was broken down and six of their geese were stolen.

“Mapogo security saw a motor vehicle towing the trailer not far from our premises and when they followed the car, the chain used to tow the trailer broke and the trailer ended up in a nearby field. The police were alerted and they impounded the trailer. The wall had to be reinforced temporarily as there was no time to securely fix it,” said Brenda, adding that at times like these they feel quite despondent.

We are already struggling financially just to be able to fulfil our mandate as a society, and then we must also deal with third parties who have absolutely no regard for other people’s property. However, we will not let this break our spirit as we have come so far and we simply will not ignore the plight of all the animals that are in desperate need of our services.”

They need the following to secure their premises properly:

• Razor wire
• Angle iron
• 13 floodlights
• 13 mast poles
• Camera system for Westonaria
• Beams for Westonaria and Randfontein
• Small generator for Westonaria – they have had no power for the past six weeks due to cable theft
• 6mm nail-in plugs
• 1 wire pliers
• Cement, sand and stone to secure and reinforce their precast walls
• Wood droppers

The donations will be used to secure both their Westonaria and Randfontein premises.

“First of all, we would like to thank the Randfontein and Westonaria community for all the support that we have already received. This certainly does not go unnoticed. However, we need our communities’ ongoing support and would appreciate their assistance once again. We are rendering a very essential service to the community, most of the time under very trying circumstances.

Our devoted staff, who do not even earn big salaries, are passionate about their work and no matter how tough or horrifying a situation, they are always ready to help bring compassion and justice to our voiceless animals.”

Brenda asked the community please to make an effort to get to know them better and to understand what they are doing, and support them by not only giving donations, but also by being their eyes and ears.

“Educate your children, friends and family on how to care for their animals. Lastly, please adopt, DON’T shop.”
