SPCA raises funds … this time with doughnuts

Committee members of the beloved Rand West SPCA gave up their Saturday to raise funds for the organisation

In a yet another effort to keep their doors open, committee members of the beloved RandWest SPCA gave up their Saturday to raise funds for the organisation at Tambotie Mall on 26 March.

This time, the animal lovers and those who are compassionate about our furry friends enticed members of the public with their decorated and delectable doughnuts in exchange for R15, with the hopes that they’ll sustain the much-needed homes for pooches, cats and other animals.

One who holds animals close to her heart, Candice Eno is the spokesperson for the organisation. She said the SPCA received overwhelming and loving support from the public.

We had a fundraiser just to help take care of the animals by selling doughnuts, and to supplement the fundraiser we also asked the public for donations of dog and cats food. Cash donations were also welcome,” Candice said.

On the day people opened their hearts and pockets to help the SPCA, many of whom asked how the organisation was coping financially, especially since the Herald had been running a series of stories about their need for aid.

Candice has gone on to attribute the growing support to the gradually improving economy and the fact that Covid-19 restrictions were being eased.

“People are starting to open up more, and we’ve also realised that as they get to know us and our pure intentions for the SPCA, they’ve responded better to us,” Candice said.

Management of the Rand West SPCA thanked management of Tambotie Mall for letting them use their premises; adding that its central location allows them access to more people with good hearts to help them.

They’ve truly been fantastic to us; we’re so happy being here – even the security is looking after us so well. To all our sponsors, we thank you for opening your hearts to us, and to those of you who chipped in, we say thank you.”
