Attempted housebreaking on the rise in Randfontein — Mapogo crime report

Three attempted housebreakings and one housebreaking were recorded by Mapogo for the period between March 21 and March 27.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said six incidents were reported for the period between Monday, March 21 and Sunday, March 27.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Monday, March 21 at 01:55 – Attempted housebreaking, Kiewiet Street, Eikepark. Intruders damaged the electric fence to gain entry onto the property and then forced open a window of the house. The alarm activated and the thugs fled the scene.

• Monday, March 21 at 08:34 – Housebreaking and theft, 1st Road, Tenacres. Perpetrators forced open a window and broke the burglar bars to gain entry, stole some household items and fled the scene.

• Tuesday, March 22 at 11:29 – Theft and arrest, Village Street, Randfontein CBD. A worker attempted to remove a microwave oven from the premises by hiding it inside a wardrobe. The items were inspected and the microwave oven was found. The worker was arrested for theft and handed over to the police for further investigation.

• Friday, March 25 at 02:11 – Damage to property, Connie Mulder Street, Eikepark. Perpetrators removed the spikes from the complex perimeter wall and cut the electric fence wires.

• Saturday, March 26 at 14:02 – Attempted housebreaking, Bartlett Street, Randpoort. Perpetrators broke the lock on the gate to gain entry onto the property. They forced open the front safety gate and door, and when the alarm activated they fled the scene without taking anything.

• Sunday, March 27 at 01:49 – Attempted housebreaking, Raven Road, Greenhills. On arrival at the premises contact was made with the owner who confirmed that a window had been broken by unknown persons, but nothing was stolen.
