Vehicle rolls on R54: Mom killed, child aged five seriously injured
A mother was killed while her child, 5, sustained critical injuries in a vehicle rollover on the R54.
A woman was killed and a five-year-old child critically injured when their vehicle rolled on the R54 between Fochville and Potchefstroom on Thursday afternoon, March 17.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said they arrived on scene at 13:30 to find the light motor vehicle on the side of the road.
“A woman and a five-year-old girl were found lying a short distance away while another girl, believed to be 12 years old, was walking around on the scene.
Medics assessed the patients and found that the woman had already succumbed to numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for her, and she was declared dead. The five-year-old girl was in a critical condition, while the 12-year-old girl had escaped with minor injuries.
“The young girl was treated and provided with advanced life support before being airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. The other girl was transported privately to the hospital for further care.”
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
