More than 100 arrested during the weekend, 38 for drunk driving

O Kae Molao operations in the West Rand District yielded 101 arrests – most for drunken driving and being in possession of drugs. One suspect was arrested for being in possession of explosives.

A total of 101 arrests were made across the West Rand District during O Kae Molao operations this past weekend.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the suspects were arrested for the following:

• One for murder
• One for common robbery
• 12 for assault
• One for using a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
• 14 for theft
• One for home invasion
• One for malicious damage to property
• Three for obstruction of justice
• One for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
• Two for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
• One for the reckless use of a firearm
• Four for dealing in and being in possession of drugs
• Eight for trading liquor without a licence
• 17 for being in possession of drugs
• One for being in possession of explosives
• One for being in possession of dangerous weapons
• 38 for driving under the influence

Other crimes included loitering, drinking in public and shoplifting. The focus of the operations were to conduct roadblocks, prevent crime, raid and close illegal liquor traders as well as trace those involved in crime.”

Sergeant Lefakane added all arrested suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ courts in the District.
