Covid-19 active cases, vaccination numbers to date on West Rand

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng as of February 23 sits at 1 189 546 with 1 160 721 recoveries and 20 538 deaths.

A total number of 1 325 people are currently hospitalised in the public (670) and private (655) facilities.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the West Rand is at 64 620 with 62 471 recoveries and 1 749 deaths. This translates to a total of 400 active cases.

A total of 8 766 436 Covid-19 vaccinations have been administered in the Gauteng Province as of February 23. The total number of individuals fully vaccinated is 4 518 908.

In the West Rand, which comprises Mogale City, Rand West City, and Merafong City, 608 105 vaccinations have been administered, with 313 284 individuals fully vaccinated.

In the neighbouring City of Johannesburg, 3 744 132 vaccines have been administered with 1 862 211 individuals fully vaccinated.

All persons older than 12 years old are encouraged to visit their nearest vaccination site to receive the jab. It is thought that vaccinating 70% or more of the adult population can minimise the impact of the fourth wave. The Department of Health (DoH) further reminds the public that those who received a two-dose vaccine need to return for their second dose at 42 days. All Gauteng sites, both private and public, accept walk-ins whether people are registered on the EVDS or not.
