Cops, numerous stakeholders give two schools in District ‘the talk’

Cops and various other stakeholders held another serious talk at two schools in the West Rand District – one in Toekomsrus and the other in Kagiso.

Police from 13 stations in the West Rand District along with various stakeholders visited Randfontein Secondary School in Toekomsrus and Madiba Secondary School in Kagiso recently for a school safety talk.

Among the topics discussed were bullying, human trafficking, peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and carrying dangerous weapons.

The other stakeholders involved during the visit were members of the Gauteng Department of Education, Department of Social Development, Gauteng Community Safety, Rand West Traffic Department, West Rand District Municipality, Youth Desk, Man of War, and Gender-based Violence Brigades.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks explained the talk was held from 08:00 to 13:00 on February 16.

The aim of visiting the schools is to support teachers in addressing social ills they encounter at the schools and maintaining discipline. We also encouraged learners to focus on their studies to become future leaders and role models; to make their parents and teachers proud; but most of all to make themselves proud.”

Learners were further encouraged to run the race and be persistent in finishing their school career.

“Principals and teachers of both schools were delighted with our presence, and expressed their appreciation towards the whole team. Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya thanked all police members and stakeholders on behalf of the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana for making the day a success.”

The team addressed Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners at Randfontein Secondary School and all the grades at Madiba Secondary School. Photo submitted.
