WANTED: One suspect in Traffic Department robbery identified

Police have identified one of several thugs who robbed the Traffic Department recently.

Randfontein Police and the West Rand Trio Task Team have released a photo of a suspect in a robbery at the Rand West City Traffic Department last weekend.

A case of business robbery is being investigated after several armed thugs targeted the Traffic Department in Westergloor on Sunday, February 6. During the incident, two on-duty security personnel were robbed.

“The robbers then asked how many guards were on duty, to which the guard replied there were only two. They forced him to show them where the other guard was, who was then also robbed of his Samsung Y2 cellphone. Both guards subsequently were tied up with their own shoelaces and left in the kitchen,” said Captain Sebonyane.

He said robbers then broke a window to gain entry into the main building.

They used a grinder to open the safe, and stole four boxes of Traffic face values registers.

The guards managed to free themselves after everything went quiet, and went to the premises next door for assistance. Police were contacted and a case of business robbery was opened. The investigation continues.”

There were no injuries and the suspects remain at large.

Police are appealing to members of the public to assist with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. The community is advised not to approach the suspects as they may be armed and are perceived to be dangerous.
