According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane the robbery took place between 00:20 and 4:00 when an unknown number of intruders entered the guardroom.

Two pointed their firearms at one of the guards and robbed him of his 9mm Norinco pistol and a Nokia C2 cellphone. The robbers then asked how many guards were on duty, to which the guard replied there were only two. They forced him to show them where the other guard was, who was then also robbed of his Samsung Y2 cellphone. Both guards subsequently were tied up with their own shoelaces and left in the kitchen,” Captain Sebonyane said.

He added that the robber then broke a window to gain entry into the main building. They used a grinder to open the safe, and stole four boxes of Traffic face values registers.

“The guards managed to free themselves after everything went quiet, and went to the premises next door for assistance. Police were contacted and a case of business robbery was opened. The investigation continues.”

There were no injuries and the suspects remain at large.
