Various businesses on the West Rand that were affected negatively – either directly or indirectly – by the pandemic were given a boost at the Innie Gees Festival held in Magaliesburg on Sunday, January 30.

The highly welcomed gesture was initiated by a Randfontein couple, Pierre Rossouw and Lucretia Aucamp, who said they simply wanted to do their bit to revive the local economy and secure jobs across the region. They hope to stabilise the turbulent economic climate as well.

“The sole purpose of the event was for friends, families and community members to have a fun day out; to have families participate in activities and to make memories as Covid-19 had us home-bound. We wanted to help businesses get back on their feet as Covid-19 hit them hard,” Lucretia said.

She said many business owners in the West Rand region have struggled to keep operating, especially considering they had to retrench many of their employees.

Families, locals and business owners alike enjoyed the outdoor activities the festival had to offer, such as horse-riding, enduro off-road racing, tug of war, catch-and-release fishing, and even tractor rides.

“Some local businesses took the opportunity to sell their products from stalls on the grounds,” Lucretia added.

Coordinators of the festival have also thanked the following sponsors: Group 5 Glass, Hook Line & Sinker, Renco Printers, JMD and JH Racing.

The following stalls and businesses came on board:

Die Buffel events; Grondpad Vellies; JMD racing; Hook Line & Sinker; Copper wines; Black Horse Brewery; Renco Printers; Nathan – Wood item; Annelise – Chilli sauces; Christine – Jewellery and furniture; Nikolene – Paper flowers; Michael – Afval food; Willem – Cooldrink and coffee; Rosemary – Boerewors rolls; Paige – Fruit & veg; Antjies – Corn and popcorn; and Bekker High School – Blanket Drive.
