Motorist ambushed on his way to work, shots fired

A motorist's vehicle was riddled with bullets after being ambushed in Westonaria on Wednesday.

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and armed robbery after a man’s car was shot at several times in Doveton Street, Westonaria on Wednesday morning, February 2.

The 51-year-old victim did not sustain any serious injuries.

Captain Eddie Boboko, the West Rand District Police spokesperson said at about 08:00 the victim was driving to work when a silver Audi A4 RS with an unknown registration number overtook him only to abruptly stop in front of his vehicle.

Three unknown armed thugs jumped out of the Audi and demanded money from the victim. They fired three shots into the bonnet and at the passenger through the windscreen,” Sergeant Sefara said.

She added during the robbery, the robbers stole an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellphone and even took the car keys before fleeing the scene. No arrests have been made as yet. The suspects remain at large.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana condemned the incident and appealed to the public to assist the police with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.
