A father was arrested and charged after, according to the police, he had shot and killed his son in Greenhills during the weekend.

A 62-year-old man fatally shot his son in Greenhills on Sunday night, January 23.

According to police it is believed the two family members had been arguing before the incident. When the police arrived on scene at about 18:20, the victim was found lying in his own blood.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana said they’ve noted with concern the increasing number of domestic-related incidents in the District.

We offer our condolences to the family, and we’re also urging members of the public to refrain from resorting to violence when resolving domestic issues. Rather make use of the available structures such as social workers, pastors, and traditional leaders,” Major General Kekana said.

The suspect appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 25.
