“It is important to remind the nation that for the past ten years, the NSC pass rate has been going up consistently from 60% in 2009 to about 70%. The class of 2021 must be commended for maintaining this trend despite astronomical challenges that they’ve faced. The 2021 NSC pass rate, including the progressed learners, stands at 76,4%,” Motshekga said.

Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Ntombi Mekgwe, also congratulated the province’s Grade 12 class of 2021 for achieving a 82,8% pass rate.

The class has demonstrated remarkable resilience and kept the province’s flag flying high by achieving great results; this despite the negative impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to disruptions and restrictions in the past two academic years. This past year’s Grade 12s achieved significant milestones and came out as second best amongst all the nine provinces in the country,” Mekgwe said.

To capture the vibe and celebrations, the Herald hit the streets and visited Randfontein High School (RHS), Randfontein Secondary School (RSS), Hoërskool Riebeeckrand and Hoërskool Jan Viljoen.

Most of the youngsters were excited about the future, and many were looking forward to studying at tertiary institutions.
