WATCH: Your Christmas lights competition winners of 2021!

People even drove all the way from Pretoria to see what homes in Rand West City had to offer in the 2021 RPA Christmas Lights Competition. And the winner is ...

The Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) Christmas Lights Competition that was held during December not only lit up the town, but also many faces, and most certainly helped to lift the spirits of many Randfonteiners.

“Thanks to all who participated in the Christmas Lights Competition – you certainly helped to create a sense of community and we thank you for that!” said Joy Hamann, RPA Publicity Officer.

Well done to the winners and thanks to all the Randfonteiners who took the time to go out and look at the lights, and voted. It was also great to see the RandMark Run, Walk, Cycle Club members looking at the lights on their bicycles and spreading some festive joy on two wheels during their annual Christmas Lights ride.”

The NG Wes and NG Noord churches also had great light displays that enhanced the spirit of Christmas.

“This year’s competition was a great success and we again received very positive feedback from participants and members of the public,” said Joy.

“We would also like to thank the sponsors who donated items and cash for the hampers for the first, second and third place winners.”

Some of the comments:

• Thanks to the Publicity Association who organises this and helps spread some Christmas cheer and joy. There’s so much sadness and to see just one person smile and enjoy your lights makes it more than worth it. We realise how blessed we are by making someone else feel better and see the smiles on their faces while they enjoy the lights and take photos … even if only for a while. This is why we do it. To spread the love of giving of ourselves. Thanks to each and every one who put in the hard work to make the house look spectacular, and a special thanks to everyone who visited our homes to look at the decorations and lights, and the sense of a community coming together. No matter who wins, we are all winners already by giving and spreading joy and love. — Louise Janse van Rensburg

• We drove all the way from Pretoria … Absolutely stunning … Well done. — Magda du Plooy

32 Springbok Street Greenhills captured the Christmas feeling for us. On Christmas Eve they went the extra mile, dressing up as little elves and thanking each car that drove by. They were so nice to invite us in to take pictures with their Santa Claus. Definitely the winner for us!! Thanks very much to the owners!! — Simon Lovegood

• “We received 12 official entries in total. Participants submitted photos/ videos of their lights and these were posted on the RPA Facebook page from early December,” said Joy. “We received one entry from Cape Town, but they obviously did not qualify as the competition was only open to Rand West City homeowners.”

Voting by the public took place between January 4 and 7 via Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger.

Well done to the following winners:

• First: 32 Springbok Street, Greenhills
• Second: 6 Conrad Street, Homelake
• Third: 102 Smuts Street, Randgate

Some homeowners are already planning for the 2022 competition and say they will be buying more lights on a monthly basis, so that come December 2022, they will be able to improve on their displays,” said Joy.

“We would like to see more entries this year and will start promoting the competition a lot earlier.”
