Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said, “The incident allegedly happened after the victim had an argument with his girlfriend”.

She added that soon after the couple was heard arguing, the landlord found the man dead in a pool of blood.

Sergeant Lefakane alluded to another incident where a 33-year-old man, who also was said to have been arguing with his partner, was stabbed in the neck in Simunye Extension 4.

Both female suspects were arrested and charged with murder. They remain in custody and will appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.

Gender-based violence not only affects women, but men too. We’d like to urge everyone to report any kind of abuse before it is too late,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

She reminded the community that every police station has a victim empowerment centre where those who need help can be assisted, irrespective of their age, race or gender.

On December 12, the Herald also reported on an incident where a 20-year-old man of Mohlakeng died at a clinic after he was allegedly stabbed by a 30-year-old woman.
