Ex-boyfriend goes on killing spree: Stabs ex-girlfriend’s son, kills two elders

New Year's Eve murder shocks Randfontein: Three members of one family stabbed by woman's ex – two elders killed and 21-year-old rushed to hospital with stab wounds.

A 36-year-old knife-wielding man stabbed three members of his ex-girlfriend’s family, killing two instantly.

The gruesome murder was committed in Mohlakeng in Randfontein on New Year’s Eve.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said in a statement the man allegedly arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s home searching for her. She was not home but her 21-year-old son was in the yard. An argument ensued between the two men.

The ex-boyfriend allegedly drew a knife and stabbed the younger man who then ran into the house where the two elders were. His attacker followed him into the house where the two elders attempted to stop him, but he also stabbed them. They died instantly from multiple stab wounds.

“The 21-year-old victim was rushed to a local hospital after the suspect had fled the scene on foot.”

Randfontein Police detectives responded swiftly to the bloody scene and worked around the clock searching for the suspect. A few hours later he was cornered and arrested.

A case docket of attempted murder and two charges of murder was opened at the Randfontein Police.

The suspect already appeared briefly in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody for a bail application.
