Two dead, five injured in head-on collision on R501

Two people were killed while five others sustained moderate injuries in a head-on collision on the R501 early Monday morning.

A man and woman have been killed while five others were injured when two light motor vehicles collided head-on on the R501 near Carletonville early Monday morning, December 27.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, ER24 and the Provincial EMS arrived at about 00:56 to find both wrecked vehicles on the side of the road.

“A man was found lying motionless in one vehicle while a woman was seen lying near the second vehicle. Five other adults, a woman and four men, were walking around the scene.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that the man inside the one vehicle and the woman lying outside the second had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life.

Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead by the Provincial EMS. The five other patients were found with moderate injuries.”

The patients were treated and transported to Carletonville Provincial Hospital for further care.

This incident’s details are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

ANOTHER NINE INJURED AFTER BAKKIE ROLLS ON CHRISTMAS EVE

At least nine people were injured when a bakkie overturned on the N12 approximately 10km outside of Carletonville on Friday morning December 24.

ER24 arrived at 11:30 to find the bakkie lying on its side in the middle of the road. Several people were found seated near the vehicle.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that at least nine people had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found. The patients were treated and thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further care,” said Meiring.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
