RandMark gets into Christmas spirit with annual Christmas ride

RandMark Run, Walk, Cycle Club travelled 15km in town, making a few stops to spread some festive cheer.

The RandMark Run, Walk, Cycle Club went to spread some festive joy on two wheels during their annual Christmas Lights ride.

Their second-ever ride took place on Thursday, December 9.

Organiser of the event Trudie Reid said that last year during lockdown and with all the grief of family and friends passing away due to Covid-19 she and her husband Mike decorated their bikes with lights, to go and look at the houses that were decorated for Christmas.

“We were trying to create a bit of a festive atmosphere, and invited our cycling groups to join us,” said Trudie.

Word quickly got around and people started phoning her to ask if they could ride with them.

“The reaction was overwhelming and we decided that evening to do an annual event at RandMark. This year we collect food for the Wings of Inspiration Elderly Care Centre, and we have received donations from everywhere.”

Dominee Carel Pienaar from the NG Kerk Randfontein-Wes also came into the picture and arranged for a truck transporting people singing Christmas carols to drive behind them, creating a Christmas atmosphere.

They cycled a 15km circle in the town, starting at RandMark, through Greenhills down to Randgate, stopping at Wings of Inspiration to hand over the donations, and from there they continued to Randpoort and then up to Helikonpark and Culemborg Park.

“Our last stop was in Homelake before we rode back to our clubhouse.”
