Tragedy on plot as man, baby daughter (six months) found dead

Randfontein Police have opened an inquest following ‘the mysterious death’ of a father and his six-month-old baby girl on a plot.

A man and his six-month-old baby daughter were both found dead at his home on a plot in Randfontein during the early hours of Saturday December 4.

According to Gauteng Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela, the victim’s brother allegedly received a call from his brother’s live-in girlfriend to come to the house urgently.

The man went to the house where he found that the door of the room in which his brother and baby daughter were said to be, was locked. He saw smoke protruding from the room. He forced open the door and once inside he saw the room was filled with smoke, said Captain Makhubela.

The girlfriend – who was inside the smoke-filled room – then pointed out the bodies of her partner and their baby girl. The deceased man was lying on the floor and baby’s body was on a bed.

Captain Makhubela added that paramedics were called to the scene. When they arrived they certified both the father and baby girl dead on scene.

The Captain added that the deceased’s girlfriend was later rushed to hospital for medical attention, and the bodies of the two victims were taken to a government mortuary.

No foul play is suspected at this stage, but Randfontein Police are investigating an inquest following the mysterious death,” concluded Captain Makhubela.
