Money and drugs seized, illegal liquor outlets shut during Rand West City Operation Okae Molao

Police in the West Rand District stamped their authority during another Operation Okae Molao in Rand West City by securing 113 arrests – most for assault GBH, common assault and theft.

 A total of 113 suspects were arrested during a weekly Operation Okae Molao, this time conducted on the R28 and R559 near Mohlakeng on Thursday November 18.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere said those arrested were suspected of having committed the following offences: dealing in dagga and drugs (two); possession of stolen property (one); possession of counterfeit cigarettes (one); armed robbery (two); house robbery (one), rape (3); assault GBH (23), common assault (14); theft (16); theft out of motor vehicle (two); theft of motor vehicle (one); culpable homicide (one); drunken driving (one), fraud (two); housebreaking and theft (3); malicious damage to property (three); reckless and negligent driving (four) and undocumented foreign nationals (16).

Sergeant Mogwere said police also shut down four unlicensed liquor outlets, seizing a total of 101 665ml of alcohol.

“The aim of the operation was to intensify police visibility in the area, trace wanted suspects; and search for illegal firearms, stolen property, drugs, and stolen or hijacked motor vehicles. Additionally, it was aimed at preventing any kind of criminal activities and intercepting the transportation of prohibited goods,” Sergeant Mogwere added.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.

“Community members are urged to report any criminal activities around their areas on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or use the SMS number 32211 or the My SAPS app which can be downloaded on any smartphone and remain anonymous,” Sergeant Mogwere said.
