No taps running dry, low water pressure as yet in Rand West City

Municipality said they're not anticipating the water supply to run out completely, but the interruption will definitely result in a significant loss of water pressure in parts of town.

Management of Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) confirmed that water tanks were ready to be deployed to areas affected by the 54-hour water-supply interruption scheduled from Monday 15 to Wednesday 17 November.

RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said, “We will endeavour to provide potable water at all times during the shutdown; water tankers are on standby in case of a severe shortage of drinking water.”

Montshiwa further explained that should residents experience a water shortage, especially in high-lying areas within Rand West City, RWCLM as a client of Rand Water would request the water supplier to provide an emergency supply of water.

At this stage, they’re not anticipating the water supply to run out completely, but the interruption will definitely result in a significant loss of water pressure in parts of town.

If there is no water at all, we will inform Rand Water to dispatch tankers in those affected areas. At this stage we are not aware of areas within Rand West City that have no water,” Montshiwa said.

Ward 4 councillor Sina Erasmus, whose constituency includes Randgate, Randpoort and Wilbotdal said as of this morning (November 15) she hasn’t had any complaints about water, whether it was taps running dry or low water pressure.
