More than 130 arrested in Westonaria, Bekkersdal during Operation Okae Molao

Traffic fines to the value of almost R20 000 were issued and 135 arrests were made during joint Okae Molao operations, this time in Westonaria and Bekkersdal.

One hundred and thirty five suspects were arrested during an Okae Molao Operation held in Bekkersdal and Westonaria on Thursday 28 October.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane gave a detailed breakdown of the arrests:

• murder (two)
• attempted murder (three)
• assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and common assault (42)
• house robberies (one)
• car theft (one)
• kidnapping (three)
• home invasions (two)
• armed robberies and robbery (three)
• possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition (nine)
• common theft (one)
• rape (two)
• malicious damage to property (eleven)
• dealing with dagga and possession of illegal substances and drugs (12)
• possession of dangerous weapons (three)
• possession of stolen property property (one)
• fraud (one)
• unlicensed liquor trading (one)

“Minor offences such as contempt of court, undocumented persons, reckless or negligence driving were also policed while a total of 23 traffic fines to the value of R19 750 were issued,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
