‘I always fight for the interest of the community’ – DA’s Alwyn

Another DA candidate councillor answers a few questions before the upcoming local elections.

Alwyn van Tonder, 43, Democratic Alliance (DA) local elections candidate councillor for Ward 3 recently answered the Herald’s questions regarding the upcoming elections. Ward 3 includes a portion of Randpoort, Bootha AH, Loumarina AH, Elandsvlei AH, Dwarskloof AH, a portion of Randridge AH, Wheatlands AH, Droogeheuvel and Hillside AH.

1. What have you done during your time in office?

I have been a ward councillor for two consecutive terms during which I have been a significant role player in securing funds in the budget for upgrading the electricity networks of the agricultural areas such as Bootha, Loumarina, Elandsvlei and Wheatlands. Both the main roads and several other roads in Ward 3 have been resealed during this time. In council I always fight for the interests of the community and held the ANC accountable on numerous occasions.

2. If you were elected, what would you focus on and why?

If I am re-elected I will continue to focus on upgrading the existing infrastructure and to continue serving the community as I always have.

3. Why should the community vote for you?

I do believe that the majority of the community in Ward 3 will acknowledge that I am actively involved in resolving service delivery issues, I have always been dedicated to assisting the community of Ward 3 as well as other areas. At the end of the day, I can only ask that the community assess who have assisted them over the past years before they make their decision on who to vote for.

4. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?

I have gained extensive experience in local government affairs while serving as the councillor for Ward 3 at Rand West City Local Municipality for ten years, as well as a seconded councillor to the WRDM for the past five years. During the past ten years, I have served on the Finance, Corporate Support and Public Safety portfolio committees.
