Shooting at Randfontein Taxi Rank leaves one dead, three injured

Police are looking for three armed men after a deadly shooting at the Randfontein Taxi Rank.

A man was shot and killed and three other people were wounded in a shooting incident at the Randfontein Taxi Rank shortly before 16:00 on Friday October 15.

Randfontein Police are investigating a case of murder as well as three cases of attempted murder as a result.

Police have pleaded with those who witnessed the incident to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the three armed assailants linked to the case.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye, one of those wounded was a taxi marshall, but at this stage the motive of the shooting is still under investigation.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, who condemned the act of violence amongst community members, said police have an open-door policy where people can raise their concerns without resorting to violence.

“Therefore my door is always open for anyone who needs assistance,” Kekanae said.

He has also offered his condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
