Three home invasions in three days – Police warn Randfontein residents

After three home invasions in just three days, Randfontein Police are advising homeowners to be extra cautious and vigilant.

House robbery is a big concern in the Randfontein area and the police wish to alert the community to be vigilant and take extra precautions.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks alluded to the following cases reported and said, “On Sunday, October 10 at approximately 01:15, a 59-year-old woman was shaken awake by an armed man in her house. The intruder tied the victim’s hands and demanded money from her. While he was ransacking her house, another intruder entered and they left with their victim’s television set and her cellphone,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

On the same morning, at around 02:30, a couple became victims of a house robbery on Letshufi Street, Mohlakeng.

The victims were asleep when they were awoken by four armed intruders who robbed them of three television sets, cellphones, a laptop and speakers. They also stole a white Polo Vivo with registration JZ 67 BZ GP.”

Sergeant Hendricks added that on Friday October 8, a man who had gone outside his house to use the toilet was ambushed by a thug who strangled and robbed him of a cellphone, television, microwave and an amplifier.

Sergeant Hendricks has given the following safety tips to community members:

• Try and avoid going outside alone.
• Ensure the windows and doors are properly fitted with burglar bars and where possible use padlocks that should always be locked.
• Contact your police station immediately when you hear or notice suspicious behaviour.
• Do not fight with the thugs.
• Try to memorise the characteristics of the perpetrators – their clothing, tattoos, features, and if they use a vehicle, try to remember the registration number and make of the vehicle.

Police have also urged the public not purchase any stolen goods, and to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

TVs, cellphones, computers, cash and other home appliances were targeted in these incidents. In one robbery, a car was also stolen. We are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist with apprehending these perpetrators, and not to accept or buy anything from people selling items on the street.

“You can contact 011 414 4992, alternatively 071 675 7094 or make use of the My SAPS app, or contact the Crime Stop number on 0860010111 to report crime anonymously,” Sergeant Hendricks said.
