Angry driver slams inconsiderate motorists after near-fatal crash

Woman talks about her narrow escape at the Malan Street/ Horingbek Avenue and Lazar Avenue intersection on September 29.

Driving on South African roads is a skill in itself.

One lapse of concentration or a mistake can lead to either road rage, aggressive driving behaviour, a serious accident or even death.

Jacky Nel, 52, who narrowly escaped a fatal crash with a truck recently appealed to road users to obey the laws of the road and be considerate.

Nel explained that the near-fatal crash occurred at about 05:25 at the Malan Street/ Horingbek Avenue and Lazar Avenue intersection on September 29.

“As I entered the intersection, I saw that a truck driving towards Randgate on Lazar Avenue was not going to stop at the traffic light as he was supposed to. He was travelling way too fast to even attempt it. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. Worst part is, he thought his behaviour was okay. What if I had crossed the intersection?” Nel said.

She wished to urge people not only to be considerate on the roads, but to consider human life.

“It’s not worth risking your life or that of others because you are late for work. Please be vigilant at all times. I am grateful to God for keeping me safe that morning and being with me every day as I travel from one place to another,” Nel added.
