Introducing Balderic Dreyer as DA candidate councillor

Another DA candidate councillor answers a few questions before the upcoming local elections.

Balderic Dreyer, Democratic Alliance (DA) local elections candidate councillor for Ward 8 recently answered the Herald’s questions regarding the upcoming elections.

1. What have you done during your time in office?

We took the ANC head-on in council. As the Chief Whip of the DA Caucus and an active member of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) I was also a key witness during the MEC’s investigation into the R1,5 billion wasteful and fruitless expenditure that saw the municipal manager of the Rand West City Local Municipality being placed on provisional suspension.

We voted against biased ANC policies and fought hard against cadre deployment! I made sure that our Caucus was adequately represented in order for us to stand against stone-sided division of valuable resources.

2. If you were elected, what would you focus on and why?

I can honestly and safely say I am not bullied easily. The scare tactics of certain contractors will not work with me.

The R1,5 billion housing project in Ward 8 will work for the community of Ward 8, first! Fairness and honesty is the name of the game. No more monies disappearing into thin air and the project must suffer. Job creation and the revival of our township economy is non-negotiable. The days when projects were brought into a ward and the jobs were given to those outside, first, are over. No more bullying by contractors! I stand steadfast.

The stadium project which we as the DA brought before the Public Protector will be closely monitored and surely the corrupt will go to jail.
I will also make sure that the four voting districts namely Azaadville Gardens, FJL Wells, Westcol Office Park and Toekomsrus Community Hall, will have proper representation on all ward structures and service deliveries.

3. Why should the community vote for you?

I’ve proven myself as someone who tackles the ANC head-on in council. As the current Chief Whip of the DA Caucus, I proved to be an animal against ANC-driven policies. I take on the ANC-appointed contractors on projects in our community and make sure that all members of the community get a fair opportunity for a job.

4. Outside of your council duties, how are you involved in the community?

I am leading a dedicated team of lecturers at our local Community College that strive to better the academic standards in order to help our community to better their chances of employment.

5. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?

My previous experience as an employee of the IEC got me equipped and also a councillor-in-the-know.

As an existing PR councillor, I know how to navigate between the different departments of council in order for speedy service delivery and taking on the ruling party, the ANC, with their one-sided implementation of the council policies.
