Get to know DA candidate councillor Sina Erasmus

Another DA candidate councillor answers a few questions before the upcoming local elections.

Sina Erasmus, 58, Democratic Alliance (DA) local elections candidate councillor for Ward 4 which includes Randgate, part of Randpoort and Wilbotsdal up to Johanna Street, recently answered the Herald’s questions regarding the upcoming elections.

1. What have you done during your time in office?

This is my fourth term in office and I am very proud of it.

In my 20 years as councillor for Ward 4 I have achieved the following:

• Clinic in Randgate which is a big achievement, as there are many citizens who can’t afford medical aid
• Palisade around the Recreation Hall in Randgate
• I won the BontleKeBotle eight times in a row, with a price money of R250 000 that must be spent in my ward. I also planted palm trees in the whole of Randfontein
• I fought for a few streets to be tarred
• I had some necessary stop signs and humps installed in my ward
• I have had the sewerage system at the Vlei upgraded

2. If you were elected, what would you focus on and why?

If I were to be elected I would focus on service delivery, as that is the main focus. I feel that the ratepayers get cheated out of proper services.

3. Why should the community vote for you?

I will always be available and try my best to serve the community,

Our community consists of friends, loved ones, neighbours and children, all of whom deserve to live in a healthy and safe environment. We all deserve the best service delivery for our hard-earned money. Let’s unite and not waste our vote on smaller parties, and build a strong opposition to fight for our rights as taxpayers. You have the power to vote for the quality of life you deserve for yourself and your future generations.

4. Outside of your council duties, how are you involved in the community?

I am involved at my old age homes, I have regular clean-up campaigns, help the older citizens with SASSA and indigents applications, and I’ve helped with service delivery queries.

5. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?

I’ve stayed in Randgate for the past 34 years. I’m a Christian and a believer. I also have 20 years’ worth of experience in local government and learn every day.
