Bekkersdal Police recently conducted a mass community crime-awareness campaign and identified crime hotspots in Sector 2 (Simunye).
Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane explained that the campaign which was held in the form of a walk and door-to-door engagement involved community patrollers, members of the sector crime forum and of the community.
The walk was led by newly appointed Sector 2 manager Christian Nong, who said he was committed to fighting crime in the area.
“We wanted the community to be aware of crime hotspots in the area and at the same time forge a working relationship with the community of Simunye to help in the fight against crime,” Sergeant Lefakane said.
People were also warned about crimes including domestic violence and abuse, gender-based violence and substance abuse in the pamphlets that were handed out.
