Three armed suspects were arrested for business robbery near a plot in Zuurbekom on Wednesday September 29.
Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said when police arrived on scene, one of the suspects had already been caught by the community.
“Members of the community pointed our officers in the direction where the other had run to and managed to apprehend them in an open veld. During the arrest, suspects were found in possession of a firearm, ammunition, an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes,” Sergeant Lefakane said.
She added that the suspects were charged immediately with business robbery, possession of stolen goods, possession of unlicensed firearm as well as ammunition.
Bekkersdal Police station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela commended police for their swift action and the community for helping police fight crime.
“Working together we can do more,” Colonel Matamelela added.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
