Almost a ton of cat and dog food donated to Cast Aways

A total of 859kg of dog and cat food as well as 56 blankets were donated to Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary during their Fun and Open Adoption Day this past weekend.

Close to a ton of cat and dog food (859kg) as well as 56 blankets were donated to Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary during their Fun and Open Adoption Day at the centre on Saturday September 11.

According to the coordinator of the event, Christell Bush the day saw different animals and owners helping to raise funds for the cash-strapped centre, which ultimately will help to take care of 189 dogs and 179 cats.

The whole idea was to raise funds for the centre by making sure that the animals have enough food and essentials so that they’re well taken care of,” Christell said.

She thanked JP White, the Achy Breaky Line Dancers, Gert Dubell, Nick Blackstone and Jessie Boston for entertaining the crowd.

Christell explained that animals are kept at the centre until they’re fortunate enough to be adopted by a family – hence it is important for the centre to ensure that the animals are well-nourished and cared for.

“We thank our sponsors namely Palm Estate, Truck Salvage and the community in general for coming out on the day. If people would like to make further donations they can drop off the items at Palm Estates at 9 Northway in Greenhills, or Cast Aways in Wilbotsdal, 26 Johanna Street.”

Manager of the centre Chris van Rooyen thanked all for the items donated, and said Aways needed more people who are compassionate towards animals.

We would like to thank everyone who was part of the day. We understand that people could’ve easily spent their Saturday somewhere else; instead they came out to support us. We thank you very much for your undying support,” Chris said.
