Daily new infections in District decline: deaths remain a concern

West Rand District new Covid-19 infections on a low – vaccination drive brought closer to the people.

Daily new infections in the West Rand District have decreased dramatically during the past few weeks. However, daily Covid-19 related deaths are still high and are a cause for concern, the Department of Health on the West Rand said in a statement.

West Rand District Health Services communications officer Nomagugu Hloma said they have fully vaccinated over 53 385 people, and 81 998 have received their first dose and are awaiting their second dose.

“All eligible persons are encouraged to vaccinate against Covid-19; these are persons aged 18 and above who are in possession of a valid proof of identification.

The District Health Services has put various measures in place to ensure that all eligible people receive the vaccine closer to home. These include various pop-up sites launched across the District, in malls, at taxi ranks and companies. Clinics and hospitals in the District are also offering the vaccine.

“Our sites accept walk-ins. Those people should bring their identity document, either an RSA ID or a valid passport, to our sites and they will receive their jab on the same day. We are currently not vaccinating any person without a valid identity document.”

Below is an updated list of public and private vaccination sites, with new sites having been activated as at Monday, September 13:
