Elderly man shot dead: ‘There were multiple gunshot wounds’ – police

A 62-year-old man was found shot dead in Simunye on Saturday.

The body of a 62-year-old man was found at approximately 16:07 on Thomas Lethake Street, Simunye Ext 1 on Saturday September 4.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane confirmed a case of murder had been opened.

“Police received a call about a shooting incident in Simunye and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The assailants are still at large and the matter is currently being investigated. The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

She urged the public to assist in solving the case by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers.

“Anyone with information may contact the police on Crime Stop 08600 10111; alternatively they may send anonymous tip-offs using the my SAPS app that can be downloaded on any smartphone,” Lefakane said.
