Four other businesses nearby did not escape the fire either.

After the devastating fire that ripped through a building housing four shops including Butterfield Bakery, there was the issue of debris and unsafe wall structures that posed a safety concern for pedestrians and other shopkeepers,” said Randy Christian, Myburgh Foundation founder and operations manager.

For the purposes of the project, unemployed youth were tasked with cleaning up and demolishing the remaining structure under the strict supervision of their Safety Officer and Operations Manager.

“This initiative is one of many more to come within our community, whereby youth can earn a decent wage as well as our community being beatified,” said Christian.

They would like to thank the intermediary from Sutherland Investments CC and Craig Norjé for allowing them to tender for the project, and utilise their dedicated team for the initiative.
