Mapogo crime report: Five incidents this week in Randfontein

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from August 16 to August 22 – from a theft and arrest in Aureus to trespassing in Culemborg Park.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security with numerous incidents being reported in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said five incidents were reported for their client base for the period between Monday, August 16 and Sunday, August 22.

A breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Wednesday, August 18 at 13:37 – Theft and arrest, Homestead Avenue, Robin Park. The on-site security guard noticed an intruder on the premises and alerted Mapogo Security. On arrival the premises was inspected and a thief was caught stealing copper pipes and cables from the premises. The thief was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

• Thursday, August 19 at 10:44 – Trespassing, Harlem Street, Culemborg Park. When an intruder climbed over the perimeter fence the owner noticed him and raised the alarm. The intruder fled the scene.

• Thursday, August 19 at 11:22 – Theft and arrest, Chevrolet Street, Aureus. Thug attempted to steal power tools from the premises and was caught by the owner. The police was contacted and the thug was handed over for further investigation.

• Sunday, August 22 at 01:05 – Housebreaking and theft, Main Reef Road, Randfontein. Intruders cut a hole in the roof and gained entry into the premises. They damaged the alarm system, opened the safe and stole a large amount of cash and alcohol from the premises.

• Sunday, August 22 at 04:42 – Housebreaking and theft, Union Street, Randgate. Thieves forced open the roller doors, stole two bicycles from the premises, and fled the scene.

“Always be vigilant, observe your surroundings prior to entering your premises or workplace. Look out for suspicious persons, activities or vehicles within your vicinity, and rather report this to your security company or the police. Always ensure that your alarm system is armed when leaving home,” said Willemse.
