MEC Parks Tau visits Rand West City, urges residents to vaccinate

MEC Parks Tau among others encouraged vaccination among residents now that sites have opened over the weekend.

Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Parks Tau visited two vaccination sites in Rand West City on Saturday, August 14 to encourage vaccination among residents.

He was also accompanied by Dumlie Sithole, MMC for Infrastructure Development at Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM).

The MEC’s liaison officer, Loyiso Jantjies said the visit to the Greenhills Stadium and Ramosa Hall was a bid by the Gauteng Provincial Government to promote 30 new vaccination sites in Gauteng to help people get vaccinated during the weekend.

The new sites assist those who are working during the week and only have time to get vaccinated over weekends,” Jantjies said.

He said the intention of the Gauteng government is to get the province back to normal productivity as soon as possible, but more importantly, to make sure that enough of the province’s residents have been reached, which will help them manage lockdown in the province.

Jantjies added that in Gauteng, which is the economic hubs of the country, lockdown regulations have affected the economy immensely, so it is quite important for the provincial government to help as many people as possible to get their jabs.

“The visit by the MEC was meant to elevated that message and promote the vaccination sites that have been opened so that more residents know about sites that are within reasonable walking distance from either their homes or work environments,” Jantjies added.

Other vaccination sites that will operate on the West Rand during the weekends are Khutsong Community Hall, Westonaria Banquet Hall, Munsieville Care for the Aged, Nelson Mandela Hall, and Kagiso Care for the Aged.
