Armed and dangerous rapists on the loose

Identity kit released of a suspect believed to be one of three involved in the robbery and rape of two sisters near an open veld in Bekkersdal in June.

The Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) has released an identity kit of a suspect believed to be one of three involved in the robbery and rape of two sisters near an open veld in Bekkersdal in June.

According to the police, two of the three attackers were armed.

“At around 18:00 two siblings were walking home. Three men pounced on them and took turns to rape them. They also robbed them of their cellphones and cash, and fled on foot,” said Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, Sergeant Linkie Lefakane.

She described the suspect pictured as dark in complexion; aged between 35 and 40; with rough skin on his face; tall and of medium built. He was wearing black trousers, a black and brown coat, and a blue and black balaclava.

“We appeal to the community not to try to apprehend the suspects on their own as they are deemed to be armed and dangerous. We also appeal to anyone with any information on the suspects to contact the police on 08600 10111. Alternatively, they may contact the investigating officer, detective Constable Thifhelimbinu Mushamula on 082 778 9048,” Lefakane said.
