One killed in vehicle-taxi crash – vehicle splits into two

One person died and four others were injured when a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on the R28 in Poortje near Westonaria on Wednesday morning July 28.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on scene at about 09:20 and found the motor vehicle ripped into two, while the taxi was found on the side of the road.
“A man was lying trapped inside the motor vehicle wreckage while another was lying outside the vehicle. Three other patients were walking around,” Meiring said.
Paramedics assessed all patients and found that one man had already succumbed to his fatal injuries, while another was in a serious condition.
The patients were treated and the seriously injured were provided with pain-relief medication before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further care. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” Meiring said.
