Greenhills man sentenced to three years for shoplifting in Krugersdorp

A man from Randfontein was sentenced to three years in prison after shoplifting baby formula from President Hyper in Krugersdorp.

The 44-year-old Morgan Chingon from Greenhills, Randfontein was sentenced to three years imprisonment recently.

Chingon was found guilty of shoplifting at President Hyper in Krugersdorp on May 15. Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Captain Raymond Sebonyane said in a statement that Chignon was apprehended at the grocery store at about 07:00 that day.

He tried to leave the shop with a President Hyper bag with items that belonged to the shop without paying for them.

He passed the pay point without paying. The security followed him and asked for proof of payment. The accused failed to produce the receipt or proof of payment for baby formula milk to the value of R987,98.”

The police were called and a case for shoplifting was opened.

Detective Sergeant Twanano Shivambu investigated the case and found that Chingon was a foreign national.

“This sentencing came after the 27-year-old Elliot Motlhabane from Bram Fischer Phase 2 was sentenced to three years imprisonment. It shows that the Krugersdorp Court takes each and every crime serious.”

The acting Krugersdorp Police station commander, Colonel Christelle Booysen applauded the detective and security personnel for a job well done. She also warned the community that crime is crime and there is no excuse for committing crime.
