Meet a master of Maths in the West

Youngster takes it upon himself to help others gain a better understanding of one of the so-called toughest subjects at school ... mathematics!

A Grade 12 learner of Phahama Senior Secondary School in Mohlakeng has taken it upon himself to help others gain a better understanding of one of the so-called toughest subjects at school … mathematics!

“I want to convince others that the subject is not as hard as many make it out to be. Many learners feel the subject is like a trap. We want to change that,” said the 17-year-old Rorisang Molaudi.

Hence he started his Chamber of Math NPO in 2019.

“We seek to create a tradition that contrary to popular belief mathematics is a hard subject, and that it has no tangible implication to how the world operates. We also want to create a positive tradition and address the harsh stigma around the subject,” Rorisang explained.

Through the NPO they host seminars and workshops to provide master classes and even mentorship and mathematical career guidance for learners of Grades 10 to 12. Their online classes also reach those as far as the North West.

“I have started it to teach and spread the word of mathematics. I believe it has to be taught as a humane subject in that anyone and everyone who puts their mind and time into it, could excel.”

Chamber of Math has since become a popular platform that many trust with their results.

Rorisang said he and his team would now like to reach more learners which could help them choose careers that could add value to the economy.

“On December 1, we’ll be hosting the first annual Chamber of Math Virtual Mathematics Competition and we look forward to seeing how it’s going to turn out,” Rorisang said.
